What are Dateless Registration Numbers?

Dateless registrations were first issued in January 1904, after the DVLA enforced the Motor Vehicle Act that saw every vehicle legally fitted with a registration mark. From then onwards, the DVLA has been able to associate every registration mark to a specific vehicle as a way to identify owners.

Dateless Registrations were issued in 2 phases, the ordinary dateless number plate, and then a reversed dateless number plate. Nowadays both styles of registrations are greatly sought after due to their limited ability. Although they have a minimal amount of letters and numbers, both styles can come with a huge price tag. At Absolute Reg, we are proud to offer a number of cheap dateless registrations from as little as £400.

The UK’s most expensive registration plate, F1, was first issued to Essex County Council. The registration is now owned by Kahn Designs, and available to purchase for a cool £12 million! Some of the UKs most expensive number plates are dateless or reverse dateless number plates, although saying this, some can be more affordable than your everyday prefix or current style number plate due to the specific market. In general, registration plates with less letters and numbers are priced higher due to the nature of this style of registration mark.
